My Morning Jacket are not exactly mainstream just yet but they are no longer an Indie secret anymore. The bulk of the momentum has to go to MMJ frontman Jim James. He is a vocal chameleon and a pretty badass guitar player which allows the band to go any direction they want, which they do with ease. James is a man that wears many hats. Just check out his side project Monsters of Folk.
What really gets me about James though is his ability to cover some of music's sacred cows. Bob Dylan is not the toughest guy to cover but George Harrison? Not an easy task. That's nothing compared to The Band though. Their music might not have been the most complicated but for whatever reason, when artists try to cover them, it tends to sound like garbage. Not the case with James and the boys in MMJ. Hear for yourself.
