New tune Tuesday

I love this time of year. The sun is shining, the days get longer and for whatever reason, a lot of great music comes out. My theory is that they are competing for the honour of being the soundtrack of the summer. Maybe it is just me but if an album or song can be your go to in the summer, it becomes immortal. It will forever be associated with that summer.

So far, there are some early contenders. I picked up Charlie Winston's album 'Hobo' today. It is not the sound you would automatically associate with summer but that could be a good thing. It will separate it from all the players in the game.

I am still waiting on the new Drive-By Truckers album 'The Big To-Do'. It has been out for a couple of weeks but is always sold out when I go to buy it. For me, downloading will not suffice if it is going to be the soundtrack to my summer.

Other contenders are The Hold Steady (Heaven is Whenever-May 4th), Tom Petty & the Heartbreaks (Mojo - release date TBA), Gaslight Anthem (American Slang-June 15th) and Stone Temple Pilots (Self titled-May 25th).

I have heard the first singles from Gaslight Anthem (American Slang) and STP (Between the Lines) today and I have good reason to be excited. Especially for STP because the band sounds like they never missed a beat. Actually, it is maybe the best they have sounded since Tiny Music.

Bring on the summer!
