If you are a hockey fan that is. With only a month left in the regular season, a lot is yet to be decided. As a Habs fan, things are looking pretty fantastic right now. Currently sitting 7th in the East but tied with Philly and Ottawa and an equal amount of games left, things seem very favouralble for Les Habitants! Especially when you consider their most lethal offensive threat, Mike Cammalleri could be back this week.
That being said, if the playoffs were to start today, the Habs would be taking on the defending champion Penguins. Something no team wants so hopefully they continue to win and advance up the standings.
The east is pretty boring this year in that it is all the usual suspects. No Florida, no Atlanta, etc. The west however is all over the map. Colorado, LA, these are teams we haven't seen in the mix for a while. And wait a second, who is that tied for first in the conference? It's Phoenix! Can that really be the case? Was it not last summer that everyone, myself included had them written off and had the moving trucks en route to the desert? And you know what, good for them! I hope they make a run this year too. If for no other reason, Shane Doan. If there is a classier guy in the league, I can't think of him. The guy is the only remaining link to the Jets and actually said he wanted the team to stay in Phoenix because he didn't want the arena staff to be out of a job. Clearly this guy is a breath of fresh air in a smokey world of high priced athletes. I would love nothing else than to see Phoenix go to game 7 in the Stanley Cup finals. Just as long as they lose that game to Montreal ; )
Just for shits & giggles, this is what the playoffs would look like if they started today:
East
Washington - Boston
Pittsburgh - Montreal
Buffalo - Philly
New Jersey -Ottawa
West
Chicago - Detroit
Phoenix - Colorado
Vancouver - L.A.
San Jose - Nashville
